What is the UPside service and the UPside prepaid card?
The UPside card is a prepaid, reloadable spending card that can be used everywhere Visa Debit is accepted. Because it's a prepaid card, spending is limited to the amount of money loaded onto the card. The purchases made with your UPside card are decremented from the available balance. Loads are made by card account owners onto the card as needed from their own bank account or credit card, cardholders can also load the card with cash or receive direct deposit from an employer. And, unlike most other reloadable spending cards, the UPside card provides reward points for cash back credited onto the card balance.
The UPside Visa Prepaid Card can be used as a budgeting tool for a child's spending. With UPside, the parent and child decide together the amount to spend. With immediate access to online statements, a child can review his/her spending along with the parent, and together discuss how they can develop and maintain financial responsibility in spending decisions, using our educational tools provided. As well, with instantaneous funding, the parent has the peace of mind that their child will never be without money in an emergency. The UPside card is the most powerful and effective means to help develop responsible spending behaviors, while still having the freedom to shop everywhere Visa is accepted.
Why would I sign up for UPside instead of a traditional checking account or credit card?
Unlike a credit card, the UPside Visa Prepaid Card does not have a line of credit. Therefore, the cardholder is unable to go into debt or spend more money than the balance. And, with UPside, you do not pay for incoming bank account ACH loads, unlike with most retail banks. It is a great solution to teach a child how to spend money wisely and not overdraft or go into debt.
The UPside service and UPside prepaid card are operated by Plastyc Inc, based in New York, NY. The UPside Visa Prepaid Card is issued by Metabank in Sioux Falls, SD.

Absolutely not. Keep your UPside card, including the card account number, under your control at all times. And do not tell anyone your PIN, not even your best friend.
How do I use the UPside card in a store?

If you choose credit you can simply sign the receipt - if you chose debit you just need to enter your PIN number (which you get by calling customer service and can change after activating and registering your card.) Please note, not all merchants accept PIN transactions. If that is the case, just select credit and simply sign the receipt.
What are the differences between what the cardholder and card account owner can do?

Card account owners can find detailed statements monthly by selecting the "View Statements" option in the pull-down menu on their online card account.
How can I find my balance?
You are able to check your balance in four ways: - Online by logging onto your online card account
- By calling customer service at 1-866-845-6273
- By using your cell phone's internet browser and logging into your prepaid account at m.upsidecard.com (cardholders only)
- From your Facebook UPside Application (cardholders only)
Can I make a purchase larger than my balance?
No. You cannot access more than the available balance on your UPside card. However, if you know your available balance before you make a purchase, you may ask the merchant if you can pay the balance of your purchase with cash or another form of payment.
Are there purchase limits to the card?
You can make purchases up to $1000 per transaction (or up to the card balance if there is less than $1000 on your card), and up to twelve transactions in a 24-hour period.
How do I return a purchase?
We advise that you keep all of your receipts until your transactions are posted on your online card account. Should you need to return an item, return the purchased item to the merchant with the receipt. The merchant will process a credit back to your prepaid card account for the value of the returned item. The credit should appear on your online card statement usually within a week of the return.
How do I dispute a transaction?
In order to dispute a transaction, please call customer service at 866-845-6273 and speak to a live agent. You will need the transaction date and amount. They will provide you via email with a dispute form to fill out.
What are my rights if I dispute a charge?
Federal law may limit your liability for unauthorized use, but it may not provide for no liability. Under the Visa Zero Liability Policy, you may incur no liability for unauthorized use of your card provided you notify us within a reasonable time of the loss or theft of your card or its unauthorized use. Please refer to the Cardholder Agreements Terms & Conditions for additional information pertaining to your rights concerning unauthorized use of your card.
Why does the amount of the transaction on my card account not match the amount I was expecting it to be?
For financial transactions at certain types of merchants, such as restaurants, gas stations, hotels, and mail order retailers, there is an authorization amount and a settled amount and these amounts are usually different. This occurs when the actual amount of your purchase is not immediately available; for example, you may add a tip to the restaurant bill, you may pump gas yourself at an automated pump, you may decide to extend your stay in a hotel room or the use of a rental car.
For example, this will occur when you use your UPside Visa Prepaid Card at a restaurant. The transaction is authorized for an amount greater than the actual amount because the restaurant does not know yet if you are going to add a tip to your bill after it is run through the system. Therefore, if the actual amount of your restaurant bill is $15, the restaurant may actually authorize it for $20. $20 is the authorization amount that will initially be deducted from your UPside card account. If you add a 15% tip to your bill ($2.25), the actual amount of your bill will be $17.25. When the merchant sends through the actual bill, the settled amount will be $17.25 and the difference between the authorization amount ($20) and the settled amount ($17.25) will be added to your available balance. If the settled amount is greater than the authorization amount, then the difference will be deducted from your available balance. Depending on the merchant, the adjustment could take a few days.
If a merchant does not send in a settled amount within a specified number of days (specified by the Issuer), the authorized amount of the transaction (in the example above this would be $20) will be added to your available balance. See next question for more information.
Will merchants hold funds greater than the purchase?
As mentioned above you need to remember that some merchants hold a reserve of more money than what you may actually mean to spend. If this does occur with your UPside prepaid card the system may hold this reserve amount up to 4 business days. In some instances a hold could take up to 15 days to fall off. If this happens, please contact merchant to verify that they are OK to release the hold on your card and ask them to send us a fax at 718-228-8178 with a written statement (including card number, amount, date, and transaction reference number) that they renounce the hold and that we can remove it sooner than the hold period.
Can I use the card internationally?
Yes. The UPside Visa Prepaid Card is accepted at most merchants worldwide accepting Visa Debit. Please note that the UPside card may not be able to be used in all countries. For a list of excluded countries, please contact us at cs@upsidecard.com.
What is my Customer Service Access Code (CSAC)?

The cardholder created his/her CSAC when the online card account was created. The account owner's CSAC is the last four digits of his/her Social Security Number.

Yes. Both a cardholder and card account owner can suspend a card at any time online or by calling customer service. Please call customer service to unsuspend the card. Please note only the card account owner is able to call to unsuspend the card.
How do I close my card account?
We recommend that you remove all of the funds remaining on the prepaid card account by making an ATM withdrawal or purchase goods or services in a merchant transaction so you do not incur any of the account closure or check issuance fees. If you would like to close your account immediately with funds remaining, you may request a check by contacting customer service, in which case a $12 check issuance fee and account closure fee may be applied.
How can I receive funds to my UPside card account?
The card account owner may load funds onto the card from their online card account at www.upsideaccount.com or by calling customer service. Funds may come from either a checking account or credit/debit card in the name of the card account owner. The cardholder is able to share their DDA information with family and employers (located on their online card account).
What type of funding sources can be used and how many?
Card account owners can use up to 3 funding sources (bank account, credit or debit card) to load funds directly from their online account, only one of which can be a bank account. Cardholders are able to give their direct deposit details to their employer.
Can an allowance schedule be set-up for the cardholder?
Yes. Once the card account is activated, the card account owner is able to set up an allowance schedule for any period or amount he/she chooses. Please note that if an allowance schedule is created from an ACH bank transfer the load date will be 3-5 business days after the allowance schedule states.
We recommend not scheduling the allowance for the end of the month; any date that does not occur in all months (e.g. 29-31) will not load if that date does not occur.
How does a cardholder know if the card account owner has set up an allowance schedule?
The cardholder is able to see if the card account owner has set up recurrent funding in the "Fund my UPside Card" section of their online card account. In this section, they are also able to see how much and on what day(s) they will receive these funds.
Can I get a direct deposit number and routing number to give to an employer or benefits provider?
You are able to get Direct Deposit information by logging into your online card account and clicking on the Direct Deposit tab in the funding window. You will need to print this information and give it to your employer. This information may also be used for other family members or friends that would like to load funds to the prepaid card account, perfect for birthdays and special occasions.
How does the card account owner add a linked bank account to load funds?
In order to set up bank account details for loads, the card account owner will need to do the following two things: - Fax/Send the Bank Account Authorization Form (BAAF) located on the right-side menu of the online card account at www.upsideaccount.com and we will verify the details with the funding bank. This only needs to be done once.
- Enter the same details to the online card account by selecting "Manage Payment Methods."
A card account owner may initiate a load once the funding details have been entered online, but it will not complete until we have verified the details. The first load can take up to 7-10 days. Subsequent loads will take 3-5 business days.
Why do I need to send in a Bank Account Authorization Form (BAAF)?
We require that a Bank Account Authorization Form (BAAF) be submitted, either by fax or mail, so that we can contact the funding bank and verify the funding details. This form only needs to be sent once, or whenever the funding details change.
How long does it take until the funds appear on the balance provided by UPside?
Funds originating from a credit or debit card appear immediately upon loading. Loads from ACH/bank load can take up to 5 days. If the funding source does not have enough money, the load will be denied.
What do I do if I've loaded funds and they have not appeared on my balance yet?
If it has been over 5 business days for an ACH/DDA bank load to appear on the card balance, please check with the funder/funding bank to make sure they have your correct direct deposit/ACH information and that the funds have been transferred. Also, please make sure the Bank Account Authorization Form has been submitted and the banking details have been added correctly. If yes, please contact us at 866-845-6273.
Credit/Debit card loads should appear instantly. If the funds have not appeared, please contact customer service at 866-845-6273.

eBillme is a third-party service provider that allows cardholders to receive payments from almost any bank account. You can use this service to get funds from family members, friends or even customers.
Many traditional banks don't allow online money transfers to an individual's bank account; most BillPay services allow transfers only to utility companies, insurance companies, etc. If you need to receive money from family members, friends, or customers, eBillme is a simple way to receive that money without the sender of the funds having to go to their local bank branch and wait in those tiresome lines.
You send a request to the funder directly from your UPside online card account. The sender of the funds will receive an email that is unique to your request with a clickable link to eBillme. Once on the eBillme website, the sender of funds will enter their information to receive bank transfer information for eBillme. They will then go to their banking website and use that bank's BillPay service, just like paying a utility bill. Once the payment clears, you will receive your funds.

Funds usually take 1-3 days to clear after the funder has requested the debit from their bank account. But, funds can take up to 5 days to clear if the bank requires a physical check to be sent instead of ACH transfer.
If you have not received your funds, please speak with the funder to make sure they have debited the funds from their bank account. If they have, advise the funder to contact eBillme directly at 1-888-899-6633 or go to their live chat.
Does my funds request ever expire?
Yes, if the funder has not completed the request within 14 days, the request will expired. You can send another request at that time.
Did not find your answer?
If you do not find your answer, please contact eBillme's customer service directly at 1-888-899-6633 or go to their live chat.
