What is UPside?
UPside Visa is an inexpensive and easy way for parents to improve greatly the management of money allowance for their teenage children.
Instead of cash allowances that are unsafe, offer no spending control and require trips to the ATM:
- you register for a card online, in just a few minutes.
- we ship a reloadable Visa® prepaid card to your home address, in the name of your teen, which you or your teen can activate over the phone.
- you create your online account, where you can load funds, create an allowance schedule or add another child.
- and your teen creates his/her own online access, entirely separate from yours, to monitor his/her own spending, check the remaining card balance, and much more, from any computer or even from his/her cell phone.
The UPside Visa® prepaid card is not a credit card: you can only spend the money that has been loaded beforehand into the UPside card account. There is no credit card bill to pay at the end of the month, no late fees, no risk of going into debt.
If you lose the card, you don't lose the money in the UPside card account: as long as you notify us promptly of a loss or theft, this money is 100% safe.
And with 2 different plans, it's all about which UPside plan fits your lifestyle. If you give money to you child only occasionally, then the UPside Access plan may suit your needs. Does your teen get a weekly allowance? UPside Clear is best for you. Or choose UPside Edge to get even more bang from your buck with ATM access and our best UPoint reward program.
Your teen stays safe…in more ways than one
UPside provides you with the peace of mind that wherever your teen is at, he or she will never be out of cash in an emergency.
Is your teen at summer camp or away on a school trip? Does his car need to be towed? Is she low on gas?
By funding with your credit card, you’re assured that your funds will appear in the card account instantly.*
And, with value loads able to be completed both online and by phone, your child is taken care of, no matter where you are.
As a Visa® card, UPside also assures zero liability on purchases made if the card is lost or stolen.
And, one quick phone call or visit to our website and your card is suspended immediately. Your teen will never lose money again.
*A $2.50 convenience fee will apply for value loads from a debit or credit card.

If you are thinking about getting a prepaid card or bank account for your teen,
there are a lot of factors to take into consideration – ease of use, value-added services, and cost, among others.
So how does UPside stack up?
Unlike most retail banks, UPside requires
no minimum balance in the card account –
we won’t charge you a penny if your balance is zero. And with
our free or low cost value loads,
you no longer need to worry about the usually hefty transfer fees required to transfer funds to another account.
Plus,
value loads initiated from your credit card appear instantly*…few banks can say that.
Are there other prepaid cards out there? Sure. But UPside gives you flexibility in plans, tailor-made online accounts
for you and your teen, and extras like the UPside Rewards Program, UPoints – all for a lower cost than other prepaid cards.
And unlike those cards you see in your local drugstore or superstore, there’s
no need to return to that store to reload your card…
just go online or pick up a phone – it’s that easy.
As the UPside Visa
® prepaid card is
not a credit card, there’s no APR. Unlike any credit card out there, we don’t want to see your teen in debt.
In fact, we are working hard to find new ways to guarantee that
your teen remains as far away from debt as possible with programs
such as Spend Responsibly, where you and your teen are provided with educational tools to help learn about budgets and finance.
*A $2.50 convenience fee will apply for value loads from a debit or credit card.

How does it work?
As a parent or guardian, you are the legal owner of the card account and signatory of the card contract with the bank.
Your teen is the designated cardholder. You can load money onto the card from your checking account or credit/debit card
for all your teen’s needs…lunch money, books, movies, clothes, emergencies.
You can even set up weekly or monthly payments for automatic allowances.
If your teen has an after school or summer job, he or she can also ask the employer to deposit all or part of the
paycheck onto the card by simply giving his or her direct deposit information, provided by UPside, to the employer.
And, as a bonus, your teen can earn points from reloads, purchases made at the UPside Mall or inviting friends to join,
which he or she will be able to redeem for gifts and discounts from nationwide retailers and participating merchants.
Other benefits for your teen
- Independence and flexibility to make purchases without having to borrow a credit card or use cash.
-
Demonstrate financial responsibility:
- Tracking and planning their spending 24/7 with up-to-the-minute online account statements.
- Being always aware of their standing by setting up instant access to the card balance
from their cell phone and setting up alerts when the balance of available cash gets too low.
- Becoming security conscious by being able to suspend the card through a simple message
from their cell phones in case they have misplaced it or lost it.
- Rewards earned for reloads made by the parent or their employer, purchases at the UPside Mall and inviting friends
